The plastic cog-thingy inside the twirly bit on my kenwood 701 has shattered.

I think the twirly bit is called the 'planetary system' and is part of the gearbox. It LOOKS as if I can just get a new cog-thingy and shove it in and this will work - I am busy googling kenwood spares in another tab as I type - but has anyone done this repair recently and can recommend a spares supplier?

Thanks!

I haven't but ISTR Gervase and Pricey both have. You could try contacting them directly in case they don't read this thread.

Thanks. I've found the part I needed here - https://kenwoodchefrestore.co.uk/ - and it's in metal rather than plastic, which should be better, hopefully ...

I thought that they were plastic so that they acted as a sacrificial gear and disintegrated before all the other bits got knackered.

Hmm. I will have a further look - that's a good point that had not occurred to me, as I am a Big Girl.

It depends on which gear has sheared?

I have replaced several of these over the years, it is an easy DIY fix. The gear I replaced was plastic, and I would not replace a plastic gear with a metal one. The idea is that if the machine becomes stuck, or jammed or struggles with a bowl full the plastic gear shears saving the machine gearbox and motor.

Have you tried this lot? Some of the pictures of the gears look as though they're made of plastic. And they've got an inquiry service.

Thanks, Sean. The planet gear for the A701A is listed as obsolete, but I have emailed them. And it looks like they have a whole hub thingy for 12 if it really is.
