I just noticed that my turnips are almost ready - and then realised that (apart from as a stew ingredient) I've no idea what I'm going to do with them. I should have thought about this before I bought the seeds, but I wanted to try something that I hadn't grown before.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

No - I think you're very brave. They're cow-food to me ...

We use them grated in a recipe for bean burgers - when did you plant them as a matter of interest?

Yep, it's lovely.

I don't know what it was called by i used to make an unusal but tasty curry with tiny turnips.

Seem to remember sesame seeds being involved.

Boiled or steamed until just done then toss in lots of butter and parsley. Works best with small young turnips.

Don't forget that if the tops are young and fresh looking you can cook and eat them like spinach.

Turnips are a root vegetable that I love. Use it as a topping with potato in a Shepherd's pie, you can also add carrot for an extra special topping.
Use the puree made with the three roots instead of just mash potato. Add to soups and stews.
Roast with any other root vegetable, mushrooms, onions and peppers with some balsamic vinegar, olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper. Delicious hot or cold!

Okay, I might be persuaded to try some of those, to get over my Turnip Fear. 'Boiled to death' was the only way we ever had them, growing up.

You can't make a pasty without turnip.
But when we say turnip we mean swede.
