I am nearly ready, just have clothes and rugby kit to pack. I didn't even need a list - yet,.......

We don't have to play rugby, do we? We are aiming to leave here at lunchtime. That might be before-lunch, or it might be after-lunch, or it might be as it's getting dark. Expect us when you see us.

would anyone like a starter for Herman the eternal sourdough cake bringing? We have about 3 portions we can split off if anyone fancies trying him. Ours is currently being fed on rye flour, and so far we've had a different flavour cake every 10 days from him.

he's very easy to feed, roughly every four days you feed him a cup of flour, a cup of sugar and a cup of milk, and stir him every couple of days or when you remember. Approximately every 10 days you take most of him out, add more flour and eggs and anything else you fancy and bake him, then feed the rest. If you get fed up with him, just cook the lot

We'll be there Saturday morning, so hope we won't miss much. I have to work all day tomorrow (saving some of my holiday for a very important event next Wednesday), and I still need to sort out the crumble and the cake we're bringing!

Sally, we'd love a bit of the starter if you have some spare. Mine has turned into a grim looking thing in the fridge from neglect. Rye sounds perfect although I don't promise to never use it with wheat flour.
