Get a named brand. I have the Nexus 7 and it's a great tablet, in my opinion. Bought the youngest a 10" one off Amazon, that was some cheapo make. Load of rubbish, we sent it back and got him a Nexus as well. It's worth saving the few extra pennies for a good one.

What are you wanting to do on it?

I had heard about the Nexus - reviews are quite good.

Not planning to use it for anything major - as I don't have smart phone etc our bank manager wants us to use this new "ping it" app for banking etc... So mainly just want one as an "out and about" extension to the laptop.

If that makes sense.

It does, so you'll need one that use's 3G/4G then? Nexus do do one and it's 239 for that one and I'm sure it will be sufficient for what you need.

Pilsbury - Thanks for that, I thought it was some sort of high tech headache pill
I should know considering that one of my sons earns a living from all things computer and technology.....he's always keen to teach me but my few grey cells can't always take it in

it makes sense technically, however, from the business perspective, what is going to happen in a bank that affects you and can't wait till you get home, take your shoes off, make a cup of tea, switch your computer on and go through your emails?

200 for a phone, I should coco!

I've got the Samsung Galaxy Tab, seems pretty good to me, although choice of accessories like cases seems a bit limited compared to iPads, did buy it just before the Nexus came out so probably bought at exactly the wrong time!

It's a way of sending money via a mobile isn't it? Why is your bank manager keen for you to use it?

You can get a free Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7inch pad free with a smart phone. The phone and tab both use android and have the same user interface. There's lots of apps that they both use, so learning is easier.
Very pleased with both so far. Around 20 per month gets you plenty of calls, txt messages too.
