We raked an area over last year beneath an ideal looking hedge. We planted seeds but inspite all fingers being crossed, there's nothing showing as yet.

Do you want me to dig you some up Bodger? It is prolific here in the woods. I could stick a clump in a padded envelope if you think that might work.

Can't move for the stuff round my parts. I just harvested some on my way back from the allotments, ready for a Wild Garlic Omlette. I shan't be going as posh as ghee though.

Also everyone, Jack-by-the-hedge, or Hedge Garlic, is up and about. It tastes a lot milder than Ransoms.

Until it flowers. Then it gets pretty strong. But it's a mustard flavour rather than an alium flavour.

And I've found it tastes better (gentler), if it's harvested before the sun hits it.

Bit naughty digging bulbs up randomly though, unless you have the landowner's permission. Cathryn's are on her private land so she's entitled to dig them up.

Yes we had ours off private land with owners consent

We have ramsons growing on chalky clay in our wood. I have just been working in an area that is covered in it and we are hoping that coppicing and opening up to the light may reduce it a bit. In fact the two areas it grows are classified as different from the rest of the wood and the most prolific areas are old marl pits.

I would suggest sharing them out when the leaves have gone over. Be warned though; if they like where you plant them they will go mad.
