That is certainly the way of the future. I guess in real terms though most of us are short of the clients to be served!

Presumably with Xp Home? Basically that is a PC for about twice the price you would pay for XP

Thanks Neil, I know the link is a bit old but it shows why it may not be worth building a cheap PC for me. Although I think that may have been a bit of a mistake when the published it, it may be about 200ish today, I'll look later.

For info, Dell sell a 15" TFT with a 3 year wtee for 150 or a higher spec 15" TFT for the same price at the moment.

If you're talking about a PC for home use I'd build one, you can get some really quiet fans and PSU's, you'll be surprised how noisy they can be.

It would still surely be a lot cheap to take up one of these offers and then mod the PC?

I built all the PC's in this house for the last 10 years until a few months ago when I bought a Dell, the economics just no longer made sense.

Depends if you take them apart every now and again too, I tend to rip mine apart regularly so I like having a good case that's conducive to such tinkering.

Agreed, and also it is worth building if you want to get a "hot" system, but for a workhorse PC it is dfferent.

Have a look at CCL for parts and complete PCs. I know nothing about this but a mate who does built us a lovely new PC that does lots of things beyond my comprehension for 270.

Doesn't that upset the tiny demons who do the sums?

Though it is of course worht remembering that it will be a cold day in hell when the latest "must end soon" offer, is not swiftly replaced by a cheaper one
