could we have a gallery? Seeing M's lovely glass painting pictures it would be nice (and of interest to guests) to have a section full of pictures of folks achievements. Things that wouldn't need a whole article to illustrate, but a nice piccy and a few chosen words would be good.

What do you think?

I don't think server space is a problem it's how you'd submit, access and search the gallery, and the extra bandwidth might be a concern too

I don't think there is a resource problem, in fact I had already been idly searching for a gallery system.

Nothing had caught by eye as ideal yet, and as no one had asked, I was not making this search a priority of mine.

As people are asking, I will up the priority. Does any one know of a phpbb/mambo gallery add on that is good?

hmm,

Just installed one and came across two bugs within seconds

another one that looks promising has ceased development

The one that looked the most promising never seems to have started at all.

these were all mambo ones though, I will have a look at phpbb ones. phpbb is more mature and this might be reflected in galleries.

There is this one for phpbb:

https://smartor.is-root.com/album.php

There is also coppermine which is a dedicated system.

of course I'd not considered the practicality of this - not being a computer whizz. Would specifying maximum picture size get over that?

I'll ask OH in a mo, when he gets off phone......

well if no one suggests a really whiz bang idea, I think I will go with the phpbb add on. It is old stable and I think poeple will by and large hang out on the forum that on the main site.

It also has the advantage that the code changes involved are small.

As I have explained to anyone vaguely interested, it is very easy to get carried away with little hacks to this and that to make the place a tifle nice. But then when an major software upgrade is available, you end up with a ton of work to do

Looking yet a bit further and I would unless I'm quite mistaken need to do quite a lot of work to make the phpbb one reflect the style of the site.

Not afraid of work, but I do wonder therefore whether waiting a little for a better solution would be more intelligent?

Some of the Mambo ones are being developed quite rapidly. Waiting just a month may see them transformed.

I think this falls into nice but not necessary, if you think waiting for a bit will give us a better long-term solution.

That is the point really.

I tend to be in the "DO IT NOW" school of how to get things done, being sesnsible and waiting does not come naturally.

This site is sort of a case in point, it was a thought at midday, a registered, hosted and kind of working site by the evening
