Strangely, I've logged out and back in and it's working now. the error message was from phbb though, not my PC.

Not seen the error, however I am often forced to sign in several times. I.e. I sign in, click view posts, sign in again, view PMs and sign in again. That was this morning, yesterday was fine. As two people use this PC I cannot get it to always long me in.

Very odd I have not actually changed anything on the site in days, despite promises

It has always happened on and off on this PC. Most people seem to sign in automatically.

That sounds like an intermittant server issue. Sometimes the load can be high on the server, which is after all shared with a lot of other sites.

We could go for semi-dedicated servers, which would be faster and more reliable, and within our budget.

I agree. I'd technically like us to go dedicated or semi dedicated, but there is no point squandering our resources which are still fairly meagre.
