Biodiesel is something that I am increasingly intreged about. Has anyone else thought much about this? Is it an answer to fossil fuel problems? Turning vegetable oil into fuel can only be a move in the right direction.

This is an interesting site: https://www.veggiepower.org.uk/

What do you think?

I always understood that certainly petrol not sure about diesel, almost classified as a waste product of the petrochemical industry, as such there is a massive vested interest in us using it.

I expect as such anything like biodiesel will continue to be kept well out of the public eye

I've often thought about bio-diesel, especially for running a household generator on (some of the larger ones can run on diesel so I assume they could use bio?). It would also be useful to run a Landie or small tractor on bio-diesel.

The thing annoys me is the fact that the Government still charge duty of it!!! If they want people to be more environmentally friendly then duty on it should be negligible. The other thing is all the info about it being bad for you engine, I doubt how true this info is.

Any one know a friend that has tried it?

Cats are a bit of a disaster, I thought that on some road verges the levels of heavy metals from cats means that the plants growing at the side can be classed as toxic waste.

https://www.biodieselfillingstations.co.uk/ has a list of UK suppliers. Even Tesco sells it at some of their bigger outlets. So it cannot be that damaging. This site also shows cars that are OK on biodiesel.

(By the way I recently heard that Tesco is a member of the RAC and if you break down in any of their carparks you will be covered by their membership!... They apparantly are just very keen to clear their car parks! I know that next time I break down I'll push/tow my car to the supermarket to test this one!!!)

My major interest would be home production. I'm sure that my local chippy would help with the veg oil supply!!

Rix garages do a bioblend product- it is still about 95% conventional diesel, but every little helps- I use it every time (apart from when the car's a petrol )
