death is always grim. and meat production involves gore too. I think I would find rabbits harder to do than chickens... do you?

Yeah, CIG, I really don't like it at all. Partly because I am no so experienced, maybe? But it's definitely because they are so personable, with their little wrinkly noses and their cute flappy ears and the fact that they gambol towards you whiffling when you go out to feed them.

I am trying to focus on the fact that they've eaten the second sowing of borecale AGAIN and that we have no strawberries this year because of them. Needs must and all that.

tis never easy to go from keeper to eater but as you say it is time. i recon get the deeds done as efficiently as possible with kindness and bunny knowing nowt about what just happened to the ones before it and then do something fluffy for a bit while the first stew cooks for a yummy dinner .

I had to kill 3 last night. The neighbour from hell is grumbling as they may have ventured off the range!
One of the other nice neighbours boys helped me corner one and was rewarded with one for their tea.
My other nice neighbour caught one in his fishing net which he refused to keep as he knows we planned to freeze them.
I offered one to the nasty neighbour by way of a peace offering but she declined as she said they wouldn't be good to eat as they hadn't spent their lives trapped in a cage

i have to admit by the end of the night i was a bit wrung out!
They are sweet to watch scamper around, but aren't all baby animals?
I killed one with the air gun but the other 2 were broomsticked.
I think I will leave the shooting to Steve.
i brought a huge fishing net today to try and nab the rest.

I did the rabbit in olive oil recipe at the weekend and am waiting for my hand mincer being delivered to make the burgers.
Happy faces at the dinner table make it all worthwhile.

Its not possible but I wish I lived closer to you both. It doesn't bother me at all, I've had a life time of killing rabbits and must have bumped thousands of them off in my time. I just hope that they don't hold a grudge and they aren't all waiting for me when I go through the pearly gates.

I must have been about 14 and one of my uncles brought his girl friend to stay for the weekend.

Sunday morning for the men of the house was ferreting at dawn and back about mid day and drop the catch and down the pub.

Lunch was on the table at 2.30 or else. The girl friend was 'asked' to prepare a rabbit for the table and I got in about 1pm....She was sitting in the kitchen, mascara running down her face crying with a partly plucked rabbit on the table...We had chips that day.

You must have misheard Dave. The rumour was that she was like a rabbit not that she liked rabbit.
