We're having some work done on our house this year. Part of it involves knocking a new doorway through the living room wall outside into the garden. We have some french doors, wooden frame with double glazed units that we salvaged from the builders 8 years ago. We had planned to use these doors but someone has said that because they're not in compliance with the new glazing/insulation something or other regulations we probably won't be allowed to use them, the work requires building regs inspection as it's structural work so it will have to comply. Is there any truth in this? I guess I should phone building regs but thought I'd ask here first. Seems silly to have to buy new when there's something perfectly serviceable already on hand.

I have a feeling that they won't comply
Don't they have to be made from K glass now?

Not K glass, I think they have to be safety glass or something, anyway unless someone who knows turns up I'd check with building regs

building control like to help rather than control . call them im sure they will explain what your local specs are .they are very nice usually and can often save you loads of cash and trouble in the future by helping to get it right once .

Building regs are in a state of flux at the moment - new regs on energy efficiency come into force in April this year which may affect your window choice.
The current and proposed regs are all available for download in PDF format at https://www.odpm.gov.uk/index.asp?id=1130474

You will probably have to change the glass, which is relatively easy & allot cheaper than buying new doors.

I'll ask if that's an option, it seems silly to spend a fortune on new doors when we already have something, exactly the same glass as what's in the rest of the house.

I am not sure about your doors gardenerJ but we have had a new back door fitted in the last two weeks and have had a building regs certificate with it - the guy who fitted it sent us the building regs compliance cert after he had fitted it
