We'll soon be clearing the ground for our house foundations and we'll need a huge tarp (or several) to cover the area to stop any weed re-growth for a while.

Just wondering if anyone had ever had to source similar and where best to start looking for such a thing?

When I say huge, we're looking at an area approx. 10m x 15m ...or a bit bigger would be even better.

Thanks in advance for any brilliant ideas!

No idea, sorry. Fish & Bird are going to Bangor though. You should go and see them. https://fishandbird.ca/

Thanks Nick - have just been told it probably needs to be heavy duty polythene.

a few phone calls to scrap yards might source some lorry curtain siding.

it is about as heavy duty as it gets and since the multiple slash and climb attempts to cross the channel, sneaky robbery and normal wear and tear there must be a lot of it available

alternatively the "surplus" trade usually has a lot of part tentage etc etc .

When we needed miles of that to stem back the floods, we bought a huge roll of damp proof membrane which is thick black, light proof plastic from our builder merchant.

I might have something suitable: some bits of an old marquee and similar stuff.
How soon do you need it?

Can I question the point of covering it over ?

If you are just clearing undergrowth as an initial site clearance, then whatever grows back between now and digger arriving won't be a problem.

If you are clearing the topsoil and preparing for or doing footings - again I wouldn't bother.
I definatly wouldn't cover the site in polythene whilst footings are dug as you will flood them !
Polythene will be a trip hazard, a slip hazard, a pain in the arse to keep weighting down and over that area will just form ponds and wherever it rips that area will get saturated.
If you insist in covering, use something permeable and safe(er) to walk on

Personally I would just scrape off any weed growth with a shovel when required.

You can get the black plastic they use for covering fields from an agricultural merchants. It is huge, and reasonably priced and if used double thickness should exclude all light. We used it single thickness on our log store which is bigger than you want, and it survived for a couple of years.
