Jack has a Dell laptop with one of those little tiny joystick, mouse buttons right in the middle of the keyboard (for little mice, yeah, yeah, do you know the thing I mean?). Anyway, he also has large fingers and they catch it after he has written a long and detailed email and cause it to vanish. This is not good. Can he disable it in some way?

I believe it is called a nipple mouse. I much prefer them to the trackpad, but if you don't use it, perhaps the easiest answer is to pull the rubber off.
