Tahir, a good list of free software - much of which is already in use at Fiddlesticks Towers! Have you ever come across any free Parental Control stuff, to 'guide' the junior Fiddlesticks Crew members away from dubious sites...?

Norton Internet Security is one possibility, but since we have good free firewalls and anti-virus software, there isn't so much point.

Have looked into this and they seem to be some good shareware versions (Jema has one on his site), but the rest are all charged.

If the kids are young you can book mark all the allowed sites and then remove the address bar in IE. Also enabling the content checker in IE will help limit the access to the more professional porn sites (you can password the file which helps)

IE > Tools > Internet Options > Content

The trouble with a content checker for small holders is that quite a few of the words we use for livestock are sexual, and then they won't come up.

It ain't easy. I spent yonks visiting sites of dubious nature, trying to fine tune the Aunty Jean Family Filter for Internet Explorer

and you can never get such a system perfect

IE can be set to allow the password to be used to override the control, or use 5 PCs like we do here

I use a similar excuse when searching for my porn too

In my old job I monitired Internet access and trust me the very best software in the world still missed stuff. Ended up writing our own. If it's for kids the best thing is to keep it somewhere central (not in a bedroom) and help them with it. Also look at history and cache files

I remember net blocking software at work in the early days. I think it concentrated on keywords until some Danish workers were caught visiting a Danish site.

Do they still block paintings of artistic poses?

I must remember jemas excuse, one for the tips section.

Yes, and then there were the people that complained that they couldn't access the Scunthorpe United Football Club website. This really did happen to me

Thanks for the tips. I might try the Content Advisor in IE and see how that does.

Bah! Last post was me, but owing to our lovely proxy server (MS ISA server, for those interested!) - it didn't log me in...
