The rosemary bush needs severe trimming again. It seems wasteful to just chuck it on the compost or the fire, but it grows much faster than we could possibly use it, unless we can find something we can make with it to send to market. Any thoughts?

tis rather nice in bathwater. tis good in bags like lavender for keeping draws and cupboard fresh . etc etc

You can make bath bags with clippings of rosemary and some porridge oats. Makes the water feel soft and the porridge is good for some skin ailments.

Cut sticks as kebab skewers for BBQ-ing? I'm always jealous that some people can have rosemary grow "too fast", basically impossible in my area as you need to pot them up for the winter.

Nice idea, but most of it is too gnarly.
That said, I've not done the top yet: the job spec was to trim it back from the path.

infusion or steam distillation for essential oil?

i keep meaning to have a go at steam distilling with rosemary ,lavender etc but never seem to get round to it even though i have a steam generator which would do the job.

If you want to sell them you would have to make bags out of fabric. Something like muslin with a ribbon round the top would be quite saleable. You can just make a square or circle of fabric, put the oats and rosemary in the middle and gather it up with the ribbon. For your own use an the bottom part of a leg of an old pair of tights, stocking or sock would do.

Do you have hens? Herbs are good for adding to the bedding, they're said to repel mites and lice and smell nice to us too when we open up the coop! I don't use them as often as I'd like as I rarely have surplus herbs but I would if I had more! Rosemary would be pretty robust too.

Tie a bit of string round the bit with the hole so the rosemary and oatmeal is only in the intact part of the sock, or start darning.
