Or aphids. Soft soap spray should sort them out.

They're tiny insects that can get into the growth point and damage nascent leaves, which can give that stunted look after they've emerged

When they feed on older leaves the damage is speckled yellow spots where they've killed/damaged cells and speckled black spots (frass).

They can be very difficult to see, but they're long and narrow. There are quite a few different species, but you can get an idea of what they look like by image googling "thrips".

aphids and thrips aren't mutually exclusive. Could be both. I've never seen aphid distort new growth in quite the same way that thrips do

Thanks all, I've given them a spray with some Fairy and warm water. Slim, they sound quite nasty.

i am down to one chilli after the rain as the runt drowned oops. perhaps my (last) one is not seen as fit to eat by the lurking vermin.

We have two spare plants if you want them. No need to pick the tops of.

Some people like to pinch the central leader to make the plants bush. I've never bothered with that, and feel like my plants get bushy on their own.

Does anyone know what these chillies might be please? They were sold to me as Carolina Reapers but they are nothing like the pictures on the internet and the heat, well let's just say it leaves a lot to be desired. The fruit itself is about 4 inches long. Thanks.

Those look a bit like 'Serrano' to me, or possibly 'Anaheim' (if my sense of scale is off) But of course there are tons of similar looking varieties

I've grown several that look very similar, hard to tell
