There may have been some mugging involved, despite them all being sort of related to me .

One family member in particular couldn't bear to put the woolly socks on her feet! (last time I knit socks for them)

She mugs people. Have you seen her armed with double pointed knitting needles? Scary!

I wear home knitted socks with my boots, and as the feet wear out quite quickly, even with sock wool, I reknit the feet. Son wants me to make him a pair as I darned a pair or woollen ones he had. So next time I go near a wool shop I need to get some more sock wool.

Nice lot of socks you have made there.

Ah, you're following a famous example..Sir Clough Williams Ellis (the architect behind Portmeirion's Home for Retired Buildings) used to wear knee length hand knitted yellow socks with the foot knitted separately and sewn on...then his wife only knitted new feet regularly

Sensible thing to do I feel. Sometimes I wonder about splicing on an extra round of stitches during the knitting and doing a double foot?

Some people hold sewing thread along with the yarn on the heels and toes to improve wear. I can’t wear them, so I don’t know if it helps much.

Nice socks. I knitted some once for Mrs C. I found them very hard to do.

It's getting the pattern repeats to match up that's the proper nuisance!

I would like to volunteer to take the place of the sock "rejecter" in your family, frewen, are there any preconditions? I did have a pair when I was a child with 3 different colours, "re-footed" twice, just not as high up the second time!

laughs

If I get a second during this course I'll get some stitches on some needles.

This time last year I had completed 6 pairs of socks, I'm not even down the cuffs of the first pair this year. All this studying going on!

I do socks as relaxation as they aren't too difficult for most of the time.
