washing on line, darkish and multicoloured target, usually cotton, polycotton or silk

eggs 2mm long, ridged, pale buff/grey on a silk thread tether

i half suspect something small white and butterfly themed but whatever they are it isn't a good breeding tactic.

I have a feeling I have heard about the silk tether, but can't think where. I am pretty sure you are right about the butterflyie thing.

If you ask a search engine about eggs on stalks it says 'Lacewings'.

Fairly certain they are not laid that way by butterflies.

I think Gerald Durrell mentions stalked eggs in "My Family and Other Animals" but my copy isn't immediately to hand.

The pictures on the web look amazing.

So is the washing on dpack's line lacey, or is it very realistic camouflage mistaken for foliage?

they do look rather like the photos in that the stalk egg proportions are similar but the shape and colour is not typical.

i have one in a pot , i will get a decent photo seems a good idea

There are many species of lacewing - I'm guessing that there is variation in the type of egg and stalk. If you get a good snap, may I send it to my former colleague who is quite likely to know?
