Interesting. He does like coloured flesh apples doesn't he. Most of the ones I see are white fleshed, but the farm shop I use gets varieties that run through the season, unlike the standard 'supermarket' apple which tend to be the keepers. We start the season in about August with the early apples, of which there are two or three before we get to the main season. They also do russets, Egremont I think, but not sure, and they are still in season. They are the only ones I really like, but currently they have Spartan, Braeburn and Coxes, as well as the russets, all fairly local as far as I know, as we have two very large orchards within about 15 miles of us. |
