We're making my BIL a fitted kitchen, doing carcasses at the mo. Just one thing I'm unclear on; does the unit that the oven goes in have any additional strengthening or is it just a box with two sides a top and a bottom?

It's 18mm birch ply so fairly strong carcass material.

From memory I seem to remember it has a brace at the back about 4 inches wide just above the base and 2 across the top 1 front and 1at the back, not a solid top

I think it depends on the oven - mine is an under counter two oven type, and when I built my kitchen, it didn't have a carcass to sit in, it stands on its own base and just has the cupboards either side. single ovens and eye level ovens have a different set up.

Ovens weigh nothing. Mine went into a regular carcass with no back. Top and bottom were cupboards with backs and units either side provide stability.

Schroedinger's oven is a tricky bit of kit, but i have had a few of them.

re carcassing for a built in oven, so long as the size and shape are right fitted ovens do not require over engineering, it is usually a matter of sliding it into the box.

remember to leave space for wires and/or pipes at the back is the only helpful thought i can add
