I have had a bad case of Garlic Rust this year
The cloves are ok to eat, but having had to lift and dry them earlier than I would normally, they are not keeping well.

How do you preserve garlic cloves in oil? I can buy them like that....
Any other ideas for preservation?

well, freezing them - i would chop/ mince and spread out on grease proof paper then freeze, you can break off the amount you need to cook.

Also you can pickle them - only good if you enjoy pickled garlic as a snack or don't mind vinegar in whatever you are cooking

hot pickled in good cider vinegar with spices

preserving in oil can be a bit moody bacteriologically, maybe not worth the risk, bad is rare but it is bad
even with a pressure cooker i would not do it

salt and vinegar and sugar hot or cold etc or dried or very cold are fairly safe

Make black garlic? Then again, preserved food often follows the GIGO rule. Preservation techniques rarely improve quality
