for those among you who want to longnet here's a little tip ,, when you look at cutting the willow rods for holding the net up stop,,,,, now go t the farmers suppliers and ask for a 10/ 20 pack of crop line marking fibreglass whips . run a line of gaffer tape down each one until you get to the point that it wil go in the ground leaving 6 to 10 inches attach the top and bottom main lines with mail elastic bands the juicy thick ones ( always carry some spares in your pack ) practice setting them in daylight before you attempt to on a dark night . make sure you have read the field also before you set them looking for any dips or rubbish that could cause the net to ruck up ,remove all obstacles in preperation for going on the trip out .. 2 people is more than enough to go long netting. carry a small tin with some pellets in your pocket to rattle once you have set the nets . go the long way round to the back of the field you want to drive ...having a slight breeze blowing in favour of the net is a bonus , rattle the tin as u go across the field crosing in front of your partner on each return as you walk so that you cover all areas. remember slowly slowly catchee bunny , note if you catch a hedgehog . get it out by unravelling it the way it went in ,lot easier than trying to unpick it ....dont kil it iether . regs karl |
