Gmail is a webmail service provided by google. It is currently under beta so they are only giving out accounts on the basis of invites. I suspect they are about to give the service a full release as they currently are giving out invites like candy I have 100 between my two accounts
I have now been using an account for about 10 months and I am very happy with the service. You get lots of storage (1GB) a very good mail search (based on googles indexing), what seems to be a good spam filter you can use pop forwarding, have your mail forwarded on to another address either all your mail or mail specified by filtering. The storage system is interesting as you label emails with specific tags. The threading of the emails is also slightly odd as is threads email together into conversations which are linked mostly by subject heading but that can sometimes be a bit random
some people do have some privacy concerns as your email just like these messages boards are scanned for content and you get targetted adverts at the bottom. You don't however get any pop up ads or untargetted adverts
for more information about the pros and cons of the service you can look here
if you would like a gmail account post here with your mail address or pm me if you don't want to make your address public or email laura [dot] spam [at] gmail [dot] com (my address for posting to message boards) and maybe I can given the invites to someone who wants them otherwise they will probably go to one of the invites spoolers most of the rest of them have already gone to
