While out mushroom hunting today I saw a forestry commission guy and another guy with a deer hung up in a tree. They were acting really shifty like they had done something wrong. I actuly don't care if they were poaching, it wasn't private land but just wanted to know why they were acting so suspiciously. Weare in the game season(right). Are you allowed to shot deer in the forest?
Or is it because he was on duty?

Could they have been worried about 'general public's' reaction to a hung deer? Although I suspect if you and JP were out you probably didn't exactly have matching M and S sweaters and day glo cagoules(sp??) and knitted bobble hats? ( apologies if it was ) We missed Bambi by inches this evening - silly doe in the headlights job and then jumps into our fields

They use our place as motorway...........no repect for fences, ditches manic dogs etc We are over run with them

Killit, it was a stag of some sort. We're talking about the new forest. I thought it was quite funny, its normally me dodging the commission with baskets full of mushrooms. The shoe was on the other foot. They where acting very shifty.

All the "Big" deer stag/bucks are in season but roe aren`t. I think they were worried that they may have "OFFENDED" Joe Public more than anything. They also get licences for shooting out of season/at night etc. I doubt if it was anything Out of order.

i would have though it was plain dangerous, woods where people go walking are not places to shoot anything. I would ask the forestry commision what was going on!

Rubbish.....everyone has a right and a RESPONSIBILITY when in the countryside.
Moreover most deer are shot at times when Joe Public and his OH are tucked up and snoring.Shots are taken by people who know what constitutes a safe shot and are taken with expanding ammo which means there is virtually no chance of a ricochet or over penetration.
