Jo the course sounds really good, it is very absorbing this bee stuff.

Well Tim collected the nuc as planned last night and sited it in the field on a hive stand. This morning we've briefly been up to the field just to make sure they look ok in the daylight (without opening the hive ) and all looks well. Tomorrow we plan to move the frames in to our actual hive. Our first thing to be done as bee-keepers (and first thing we'll do on our own i.e without an instructor to ask things of).

I'll stick some photos on the blog when we're done.

Well done. Did you mark her?

I still haven't found mine, although I see her work frequently, so am not unduly worried.

our bee supplier had marked her and clipped her as well, so we don't have to do that this time.

Hang on - photo found

actually we were concentrating transfering the frames so although we knew 90% of the bees were out of the nuc and none of the remaining ones were the queen we hadn't actually spotted her as we did the job. It was only afterwards at home, looking through the couple of quick photos that Tim had taken at the time, that she was spotted. So the above is a zoom in on one of those shots.

Rhiannon. Its after the celtic legend of Rhiannon and the White Horse, as the White Horse at Uffington is a local landmark.

really want to know? Your local beekeeping association probably has members that will sell you some or a local beekeeper (which is how we're getting our 2nd lot) or Thornes sell bees ('spect other suppliers do too) or we got ours from www.thehivehoneyshop.co.uk as thats the guy that we did our course with.
