I planted some crowns about 3 weeks ago, how long should they take to come up. Or is 3 weeks too long?

I expect they are putting out some roots first before the shoots will appear so 3 weeks isn't too long. Have you watered them a bit to stop them drying out, not too much water though?

Mine took 23 days to appear so I reckon you are alright yet. I had them under straw aswell in case of a frost which may have speeded them up. The first shoots put in there appearance on 14th April and they are almost a meter high now

Thanks for the help I will go out with my magnifying glass in a couple of days to see if there are any signs. I have watered them twice a week and they are on light, sandy soil.

Further south but higher up (Masif Central). About same temps as Southern England here.

I got 20 shoots from 21 and I was sobbing over the absentee (think the slugs got him).

[edit] Mine are Fileas if that means anything to anybody? [/edit]

Is it possible to grow asparagus in a large container?

What, like a chest freezer? I would imagine so. It would probably do rather well in fact without all those weeds to contend with. I am only speculating.

Asparagus won't do well in containers as there is unlikely to be enough room for a sufficient root run.

How is the asparagus doing MrO? Any sign of it yet.

My last one (the one the slugs severed) just poked back through. I had almost given up on it. That's 21 for 21

Don't be disheartened. Put more in next year. It will be worth the effort.
