I have been contacted by a Film production company asking if I know anyone in the london area who has a bit of the countryside in the city. What they have so far is resturant who grow all their own foods on the roof and a lady who suposedly hatched an egg bought at Tesco. Anything along these lines I guess. If you want to help them out then let me know. ta

Lindsay has, but I think there was some publicity about someone else in the nationals, while Lins had her eggs in the incubator.

I thought the publicity was about an old man though, whereas Lindsay is definitely a lady

I always thought that shop bought egg were not fertalised, how is it possible?

I guess this is something to take into account when buying free range eggs, as opposed to battery eggs.

I've never really given any thought to the fact that the eggs I buy may be fertilised - the company I work for deals with complaint letters from Sainsburys customers and about six months ago I saw a letter from a customer who's daughter was traumatised when cracking an egg into the frying pan to find a dead foetus - we got the piccies as well - awful!!!

Commercial eggs should not be fertilised. The Oakham hens, apparently, had the cockerel in with them because it kept the hens calm.

This is a townie question, I know, but I've never had chickens....... If an egg was fertilised, can you tell? (as long as they are fresh) and how long can they be kept? I was under the impression that as long as they wern't brooded, they wouldn't develop, but obviously some do - it must be quite rare though (especially if people keep eggs in the fridge)

Fertile eggs look no different than non. If they are left to develop initially you may see a spot in the yolk. Fetile eggs can be kept in a fridge, and still hatch for up to a month. The viability will go down as the time increases, but it is still possible. Only when they reach and maintain a temperature do they start developing.
