Just ordered one yesterday, so worms and boxes and stuff should come Monday ish.

The one thing I'm unsure on is bedding; shredded newspaper okay as worm bedding?

I was looking at getting one of these as a way to compost a lot of my kitchen waste rather than add it to the main compst heap. Anyone know if this is a particularly good (and rodent proof) way to handle kitchen scraps?

Dunno. Read in various places about coir as a bedding, in others about shredded paper.

It'll probably come with a "how to keep your worms alive" leaflet...

A friend found out the hard way that you shouldn't put citrus skins in a wormery .

Sorry, just read the title again. Were you waiting for someone to add "They've all got it wormery!"?

Shredded paper (preferably previously used as animal bedding) works quite well I think (if I remember correctly from all those years ago)

I started mine on coir, which it came with. If you want a brick (of coir!) I've got a couple kicking around doing nothing.

I seem to remember that a friend who had one used to put in an old jumper for the worms!

I think it's to keep the worms nearer to the top where there's more food to work on. The original kit had a kind of duvet supplied but I suspect it became pass

It's to keep the moisture in and keep it nice and dark at the top to get them up into the fresh waste. Mine ate theirs, and now have an old leather skirt instead.
