If you have ever read "Sixty million Frenchmen can't be wrong" Rob then you will realise how uncanny your statement here is. That is the French summed up and so I suppose that is how your friends that have moved to France sum the place up and report back.

If youz happy where you are then good for you. I am happy here too at present.

Ditto for rural England. I'm afraid I got quite heated at a dinner party last week. A new couple have moved up from Surrey and I listened to her complaining about the neighbours cockerel, no Waitrose, not being able to move a few yards in the market without having to "negociate around people chatting away as though they have all the time in the world". I bit my tongue for a long time and eventually suggested, very politely, that she might not be suited to rural life!

None around here; just Limousin and Charolais with the occasional Friesian. However, I will admit that I am not an expert cowspotter...

I wonder if you are anywhere near the "lost camp site". Many years ago Sean & I stayed for a few days at a campsite in the middle of France. We really liked it, but have no recollection of where it was or the name of the nearby town. We were the only people on it except for one old French couple in a caravan and lots of glow worms. And lots of field mice. There was an area nearby with lots of little drainage canals called green Venice or something similar. Ring any bells?

Well I'm pleased I came. It meant I could give up work at 51 and become a kept woman, which I quite like now I've got all that feminist stuff out of my system. It's still less than a year, so I mustn't count my chickens, but both Mark and I are happy with our own company, and enjoy playing rather than working. Tay, I love your Avi.......just a little too gory to pinch it though

I'm glad I moved here too. Gave up the stressful life in the UK at the ripe old age of 43 . Will have to find a few things to bring in pennies to keep the wolf from the door, but really enjoying the new lifestyle. Just a shame that "smallholder" isn't a concept understood by the French - you either grow just enough for yourself, or you're a farmer, and have to pay the "cotistations" to match
