Any downsizers abroad feeling the pinch with the strong euro - weak pound?.........pensions, allowances, transfers from UK etc?

Not really, although the wife's heading back to the UK this week for a visit and is bracing herself for paying so much more for everything.

Feeling it in the UK, if that helps? Work for a German company (so they hold our purse strings) and the US and UK are two of their biggest markets.

Swings and roundabouts surely? OK, the pound/euro rate may change but life in Spain or France is cheaper than the UK so we win?

Did you notice hardly any European tourists last year? Local hotels have had it bad for the last few years up here.

Did you notice the weather last year? Flooding in July was world news. I wouldn't have come here. On the flip side, I hear the slopes are already open and looking at their best year ever.

It was wet throughout a lot of Europe, and they didn't know before hand anyway. The � has been strong for a good few years and tourists have not come for ages. When last did you see a Yank outside Londonshire?
The slopes are seemly top notch for Scotland, but would a Englishman travel up to ski on our snow, or tavel to France for powder snow and cheap booze? I know tha answer, The strong pound works in our favour when abroad.

The hotels in Asturias only had 64% occupancy last season so it has not been a good year here for tourism. Think we are seeing the first effects of too much borrowing, debt and credit. I cannot think that the euro will hold up for much longer as the problems in Europe are not dissimilar to the UK or States.

ON the French slopes the beer and food is just as expensive as here, if not more so. �8 for a coke last year. I nearly had my butler complain!
