JUNE RECORD TUMBLES

"Benson in Oxfordshire experienced its lowest June temperature ever recorded last night, as temperatures plunged below freezing in parts of central England. The Met Office at RAF Benson recorded a temperature of -0.3 C, beating the previous low of 0.0 C recorded in 1962. The night's lowest temperature of -1.1 C was recorded at Aboyne in Scotland. In contrast, minimum temperatures in Cornwall and Angelsey were above 10 C. But this is still a long way from the all-time lowest June temperatures for the UK. Both Dalwhinnie in Scotland and Santon Downham in Norfolk have recorded -5.6 C in June before in 1956 and 1962 respectively. The last cold spell in June was in 2001 when minimum temperatures fell to -3 C in many parts of Scotland.

With high pressure set to dominate our weather over the next few days, the pattern of chilly nights is likely to continue. But with plenty of sunshine forecast during the day, minimum temperatures are not expected to dip as low as last night."

I've been keeping an eye on the weather as frost was predicted for round here. I did think it was unusual to be so cold in June but wasn't sure it was just me getting old.

Another cold one tonight for some.
