I saw this on the b3ta newsletter and immediately thought of this forum...

...although I find game rabbits far too gamey (

), I really enjoy the subtle flavour of 'tame' rabbit.

I'm v. interested in keeping 'tame' rabbits for my pot, but have found hardly any info on the web about this topic. If anyone has any knowledge, or links to other sites about this subject, I'd be v. keen to learn about it.

Haha, no probably not And that's a part of my problem. I can't turn up at bunny-lovers.com and ask "What's the best breed for the table?"

It's quite common in France to keep rabbits for the pot. When I was a nipper we also kept our rabbits for the pot, after my pet bunny proved he was a he rather than a she. They were what I'd call mongrel bunnies as I don't think they were a particular breed.

Very useful link. Especially as we just (yesterday) took delivery of our first two bunnies. A male and a female. We hope to breed more. BTW Hedonists - the worms are doing very well, thanks again for sending them. Simon

Could you please provide some details about your bunny setup? Such as how they'll be housed? What sort of a run they have? How old they'll be when you scoff 'em? What you intend feeding them, etc?

Very interesting. Had never thought about eating "tame" rabbits. (Most of the rabbits I have seen live in conditions that should see their owners prosecuted) Perhaps some difficulty getting Thumper on the menu I Was amazed to find in a search that some of the meat varieties reach 20lbs in weight! I have never eaten tame rabbit. What does it taste like?

The ones I get from my butcher have a lovely subtle flavour to them. I'm tempted to say a slightly perfumed flavour, all of their own. At the moment we just rub in a few herbs and sling them on the barbie. With fries and a salad they're delicious.

Yes, I will certainly post more details here soon. Very busy at the mo but we will fit it in. We have been informed that home-bred rabbit is the best that you can get to eat. apparently it is far superior to the bun's that are bred for the pot. will let you know when we have eaten one

No worries. Whenever you have the time... ...save it for a cold, wintery night I'm a few years behind you at the moment. So my interest is only in the theory of the experiment, but very interested I am.
