I think it's an excellent idea. Some people on here obviously know a lot, but the same questions come up often, probably from people like me who don't know much. Also, was just looking at another forum that I drop into occasionally (Selfsufficientish) and people discussing question of feeding scraps to domestic poultry which I've seen mentioned here a lot - must be frustrating if you are one of the people who reads the Defra stuff and knows something!

Think the point I'm trying to make is that, yes, the knowledge does seem fragmented - though lots of it - and there are many people out there needing education /enlightenment

I get the impression there's a fair variance in how local officials implement the various rules and regs. So a database might help but at the end of the day you need to do what your local official wants, even if you have to help them understand the regs in the first place!

Are we talking H & S or DEFRA or both and do we intertwine the two? We shouldn't but a lot do, mainly due to lack of knowledge!

the problem with a lot of legislation (especially H & S) is the vagueness - OK it means that it can be applied to everything, but it does mean that one persons inerpretation is nothing like the next persons! Makes life awkward at times to say the least!

Good question, get the person who started this thread to get the ball rolling - give us his experiences maybe of the various use of certain bits of legislation - the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 (note the word WORK) or the Environment Protection Act for a start!

If it was done as a blog, then it could be done on a standard platform which allowed keyword-tagging. It seems from the thread that a lot of this stuff is experiential and not really set in stone ... so it would be a catalogue of people's experiences rather than an "If A happens and you want to do B, then pull the Big Green Handle" kind of thing?

So on a blog, people could ramble about each particular experience for a bit - "This happened, I did this, they said that, the outcome was this" ... and tag it with keywords.

Then people looking for similar situations could search the blog on keywords for appropriate help?

I suppose you could do a database that would do the same thing ... but might it be re-inventing the wheel?

all well and good but I thought I was offering not asking; the floor is still open for anybody who would like a bit of help on this subject, such that I can offer; on this subject I'll say no more unless asked
