There is a small squealing sound as I stop sewing. It doesn't sound grossly unhealthy, just like something needs oiling. Infact there is a small bottle of oil in box.

The million dollar question is where do I put the oil?

The instruction book for my machine has a diagram showing where to drip the oil. If you haven't got the instruction book, as dpack says, but also wipe off excess oil and do a bit of stitching on scrap material to avoid spoiling your good stuff.

....and you really do need the merest drop of oil on any one part. Otherwise it tends to run down the needle...

Open all the bits that can open without a screwdriver, get an old eye make up brush or something and remove all traces of fluff. Put one drop of oil on any mechanisms that move when you turn the handle by hand.

leave overnight, in the morning get an old scrap of fabric that you don't mind ruining and sew up and down it until you are sure no traces of oil are coming off.

Tis a modern one.

I still haven't got round to oiling it yet. I might do later before I go to bed.
