many years back i tried to use C but found basic much more forgiving hex is nuts and binary is fine if you will live a million years and not care you have still no result for showing a good result i like off the shelf software

proper ds tangent ,but is the sewer network rather like software ? i think i mean one piece at a time and connected together in stages on a needs are basis

Pretty much, except for the really huge upgrades like the victorian London ones.

spose most of my tries at software were less successful than my tries at sanitation i prefer experts to do both

I've always been in favour of C++ (LPC, actually, but I digress). Anything that positively encourages you to use foo, bing and frog as variable names can't be all bad.

Brilliantly written article but why do we need to change C++ anyway? I can't remember the last time I wrote C++ but it is incredibly elegant when you get down to the fun bits. I had to read some VB8 today, I still feel a bit dirty

I like C++ though I have not written it for years now.

But even then there were getting to be a few things in the language that were unreadable, in the sense that if you didn't already know the syntax you would not be able to figure it out from the code

In languages I like, I think anyone with a lot of language experience should be able to get the gist of most of what a piece of code does even if they don't know the language well. For example it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what the loop constructs do in just about any language.

This new stuff looks almost deliberately obscure

I do hate "clever" code constructs, how many people would understand in "c".
