My car was written off on Thursday & I am all booked to leave for Portugal in it a week today. I'd just about given up hope as I couldn't afford to replace it till the insurance money is sorted, but my Dad has just stepped into the breech & offered to lend me the money to buy another car leaving me a couple of days to find one before I have to admit defeat ....

So, if anyone knows of a large Diesel Estate (Rover / Volvo / Peugeot 406 size) for sale with a price limit of up to about 2k, with a long MOT, available to drive away immediately, please please let me know 07816 471383. I'm on the Surrey/Hants/Berks border.

It took me weeks to find the last one as decent diesel estates seem to be like gold dust round here.

I'd also consider any other large vehicle so long as it has more than 4 seats and is diesel. Minibus?

I don't care what it looks like, so long as it's mechanically sound. I cannot afford to be stuck 25km away from the nearest town with a 5 year old.

Am absolutely kicking myself as I sold my van just last week .....

Will be trawling all the normal channels but thought a post here wouldn't hurt.

Cheers,
Andrea

Sorry, can't help directly, but hope that you know of
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/
which is a brilliantly conceived site allowing you to adjust the distance from home of your search.
Note: you'll have to register to specify a search for "diesel"...

Good luck!

What about one of those 'car supermarket' type places. Can't remember the name of them, but will check in my back window later.

Thankyou for those suggestions. I'm glad to report that I've found something today, and I'm still on for Sunday's ferry

I've bought a Frontera estate, and my son is beside himself with glee that Mum has bought a 'Monster Truck'!!

Hurray!!! Best of luck with the move (it is a move, isn't it - not just a holiday?) and have a lovely time.

I hope the journey is really boring and uneventful!
Take it easy, and with an unfamiliar vehicle, especially in a hot climate, do check fluid levels (oil, water, hydraulics) and tyre pressures along the way! (And don't take chances with the bottom of an unfamiliar fuel gauge...)

Bon voyage! (Sorry no idea of the portugese...)
