i was thinking of going veggie for a week, and wondered if anyone else fancied virtually joining in?

I did a week earlier in the year and felt it was really beneficial, but not enough of the lessons stuck.

So definately overdue for another no meat week.

I'm interested, as long as I can eat fish!

Sensible question, it's the height of my fishing season!

I'm including fish in the deal, and in my case Monday may be part of the "left overs" cycle with the beef/chicken we got from the farmers market today.

What about...vegetarian unless you catch the meat part yourself?

So 'vegetarian unless you've got some meat or fish' week? Sounds good, I cooked some home-cured salt beef last night, I'll have that.

Try putting 'saltpetre' into a search on Ebay.

You can get saltpetre (or at least you could a few weeks ago) from Franco the sausage chap who posts on here.

I think I might be able to manage that. Do I have to wait until Monday before I start, or can I get going right away?

I think that's Franco.

The cure I used was from

www.freedomway.co.uk

called Somerset Secret Cure. Unfortunately the
recipe on the site doesnt correspond with what you get in the post its a bit flaky when it comes to info so I guessed and used 30g of the cure to 300g of salt in a wet brine for a 1.4kg pc of brisket. Tasted pretty good, and I'm glad Jema has given me the excuse to eat it next week.

Don't want to stray even further from the original post but how about a "don't visit a supermarket for a week"

Regards the veggie thing, I'm happy to join in but I'll find it pretty easy as my OH is veggie so most meals tend to be that way anyway. The supermarket thing will take a bit of doing though!
