We've harvested loads of broad beans today and I'm reluctant to throw the pods away. Has anyone made wine from bean pods? Sorry - just realised this should be in recipes etc

I have always understood mature broad bean pods to be slightly/mildly poisonous, so ahve never amde wine from them, although I've made wine from the beans themselves when they get old and big. I put mine on the compost heap - chickens won;t eat them either, not a good sign.

To be almost practical., Twoscoops uses them early in the season, to make a pasta sauce, BUT like guest says they are apparently not good for you this late: this is where is was discussed a couple of months ago but unless you have a couple of uncomfortable looking goats about the place it probably won't get you much further! Compost heap sounds good to me.

The boats and fishing sound fun though

Always seems a pity you can't turn borlotti bean pods in to something decorative...
