Nice easy one for the languid final days of Summer

With grateful thanks to the folks at FrugalGenius for the original idea, would anyone like to join me in seeing how LITTLE they can throw away this week?

Pah! I hear you scoff, easy! You are preaching to the converted, Lozzie!

Well, that is as may be - but I am wondering if I can take it one or two steps further ... is there something I may have overlooked or forgotten, or not thought about? I was 'shocked' the other day when my initial response to a situation was "I wonder of I can get it on eBay?" No matter how committed you are to this lifestyle, it can sometimes take extra effort to overcome decades (in my case) or pre-programming.

This is a great exercise for anyone who is relatively new to the whole ethical/downsizer/frugal lifestyle thing, but I feel it can also be a handy "back-to-basics" exercise for old-timers (not suggesting that any of you are OLD - God forbid! )

If you fancy having a go, please post about your experiences here.

Thanks! Lozzie X

OOPS! No takers? Well, maybe it is too soon after the FrugalGenius version.

Maybe some other time.

If the littlun wasn't in disposables (yes I know) we'd struggle to fill a full bin bag a month (and that's with three sprogs 5 and under)

Perhaps no-one has put anything in their bins yet today

I'm game - I will 'fess up to 3 plastic punnets that held cherry tomatoes and the plastic wrapper from a piece of brie. How about you?

AFAIK to.

Would you belive that Swindon Council sent us all a vast booklet on there new recycling schemes. With one half of one page on what could actually be recycled. So there are lots of thing like the half plasticy foil things you get these days that I still have no idea as to whether they are okay or not

I'm up for this challenge. I've got more inspired by visiting CAT last week, there were things in their compost bin I didn't realise you could compost.

Now in the compost bucket goes used kitchen towel, small amounts of cardbooard - I thought the coated shiny stuff like pizza boxes wouldn't rot but apparently its fine ripped up and in layers with other stuff- as well as all the usual. I've always saved the marg boxes or similar as I use them as freezer containers or plant pots.

I've got better at washing out tins and jars and popping them in the recycling bin along with some plastics that Oxon Council will take like plastic milk cartons.

Slight problem in that as we were away last week I made sure there was no rubbish in the house before leaving but forgot to ask the neighbour to put our bin out so I start at a disadvantage to begin. Not helped by it being eldests birthday today and never mind food packaging you should see the stuff generated by toy companies! But we use large cardboard pieces to help start bonfires on the plot so that won't get put out either.
