-15 have the heating on in the chicken hut..... seems a little strang ethat we heat the house with wood fires yet keep the chickens warm with an electric heater. Animal welfare before the planet?

Minus 2 this morning at 10am in the polytunnel. Lots of snow on the ground and work has been cancelled - yippee.

We've just been looking at the forecast for this area- doesn't look like we'll be using the tap this side of Christmas, with a nighttime low of -8 on Wednesday.

Edit: Apparently it got down to -8 here overnight, but I was well tucked up under several blankets and a duvet.

We have a free running tap at the new buildings- it's just a pain having to fill a freezing barrel and barrow it up here. The animals are on rainwater tanks in the yard and I break the ice on the pond for the ones out in the field. I've been waiting for a dry break to sort the pipes out (without scrabbling around in mud) so it's my fault really but don't let Nat hear me say that.

It's snowing right down to the sea here. The weather forecast said in the South and East. You can't get very much further West from here.

I'm reading Ice Station Zebra at the moment: keep thinking how cold it sounds and then I have to go outside...

It's colder here today than yesterday. Despite the bright sunshine the snow is not melting at all. I've just given in and put the heating back on 'cos I'm frozen. I need some fingerless gloves...

I would imagine that a wood fire in the coop might pose a few problems....mind you roast chicken is always welcome

I was looking at the temperatures forecast earlier- looks like being another cold one on Wednesday night with Lincolnshire down to -9

Not looking like any opportunity to get above zero here though

We have to keep our chickens warm too, we have a wood burning stove in the room beside them which we light once a day or twice a day when its reakky cold, like now minus 26 ! the heat then moves into the chicken room via a hole in the wall, we use a fan to move it sometimes, chickens are then kept above freezing, and they are happy!
its starting to get warmer...should be only minus 21 today.
forcast for the rest of the week is arund minus 12 and lots more snow!
When you are all geaed up for the cold and lots of snow its no problem but I can really see how its difficult for you guys at the moment, but enjoy..
