Toms I have 10 plum and 10 Gardeners Delight as if they fail I have spare seed.

Chillis will now be started next week as I'm now on leave, I'll choose two or three different types. As I said only thing to be thinking about. Early sow is clearly a risk, but sometimes worth it.

I really should not be playing on this thread...I always plant too early, and every spring sees our kitchen floor carpeted with tomatoes and chillis and aubergines brought in each evening.

I do have some left over Tabasco and something else in the seed box though...it's in the public interest, shurely?

And once I've entered Sean's Quiz maybe I'll have even more to play with....buwahahahhahahahah

Tidied out the greenhouse this morning (amazing how much havocone cockerel and a wee chicken can wreak in a greenhouse over a fortnight ), pulled the last of the tomato plants up, had two tomatoes and several radishes that were hanging on. Found two eggs

Put in the broad beans and garlic into modules - bit alter than usual, but they're in now. Need to search out the sweet peas and get them in tomorrow, but there's plenty of time.
Too cold here, even in the greenhouse for much else - down to -3 last night, very hard frost. I tend not to heat the greenhouses as I don;t like the paraffin fumes. The rabbit usually keeps off the frost, but she's in one of the other greenhouses this winter.

I want to get an early crop of beans again; I did this the year before last, and it was very successful; very early sowing of dwarf beans, then plant into greenhouse borders. By the time the tomatoes are ready to go in there, the beans are over - cut the bean plants and leave the roots in for the nitrogen advantages.

I haven't got a greenhouse no room sadly! I have been reading all this info about early sowing though as I am keen to get as much out of my tiny plot as I can again this year.I thought I'd have a go and I have my first toms and peppers through in trays on the windowsill now what?? LOL I don't remember ever having sown them this early before its a bit of a do it and see approach methinks!Shall I just keep them inside and grow them on (hopefully) or should they be put outside wrapped under tons of fleece? I have also fleeced up my side bed for early sowings so can someone give me any ideas when best to sow carrots/dwarf beans for an earlier crop I saw Sarah was doing early ones but havent as I said got a greenhouse so they'll have to be hardened off and straight out.

How do you get around the problem of plants running out of pot space before they get planted out?
Last time I tried sowing anything this early the crop was reduced because the plants were too soft from early growth .
Can't plant anything yet as the greenhouse is full of overwintering fuchsias, geraniums etc, but the polytunnel should be arriving soon.

Now I'm really jealous..a polytunnel and a greenhouse *sighs* I can dream I am lucky in that I have vast amounts of windowsill space..very tolerant kids and hubby who don't mind every surface everywhere being covered in seedlings for a while I get my stuff outside as soon as I think it'll survive normally in prewarmed soil..I also use the old bottle cloches and fleece on top if needed and am very careful to harden things off first(that's the most annoying part..in and out, backwards and forwards!!)

Deedee, i found those mini plastic greenhouses invaluable in your situation....being in a one bed flat myself with a hanky sized garden I know where you're coming from! I could start the seeds off indoors and then pop them under the plastic...However one mini greenhouse soon turned to two....and now a year later I also have a 6'x4' proper greenhouse. Doesn't matter how much space you have you always need more!!!!

For spuds I'd wait until the middle to end of march to get you first earlies in (i.e. your new potatoes), for a july harvest. In the meantime, on a dry day, dig over the patch you are going to grow them in and add some rotted manure or compost. They're a hungry crop and appreciate the boost.
