All I have tired when making sausages is my kenwood mincer attachments, which was worse than useful with the pork/fat mix I got from my butcher. Hence for further attempts I chickened out and got the buthcer to mince for me

Now i'm not afraid of a bit of hardwork, but the Kenwood took us literally hours for 5kg of mix

So how well would a hand one work?

What's up with your chef? I use ours to mince beef for burgers and it doesn't take anywhere near as long

I did about 2 1/2lbs meat for the last batch of sausages, and it didn't take long at all; it's quite therapeutic sitting mincing, (as it were, Jonnyboy)!
There are some things that I am more than happy to do by hand, and time isn't usually an issue for me. Warning - don't put your fingers too far in or you might break them - I nearly did when I wasn't paying attention.

In Praise of Slow is a good book, by Carl Honore, by the way........

Would that be the type with a screw treaded clamp? If it has more that one cutter/thingy on the front then maybe we could talk strawberries and other soft fruit

I bet you have never tried fatty pork though

seems to jam the thing up instantly.

It's the one in the pic on the RC forum about sausages, latest batch; screws on to table top, cast iron, made by Spong. The two I have on offer are exactly the same, but older I think, and no boc.
There are two discs on the front of mine - one that stays one there with a small lug on it, and the choice of fine, medium or coarse cutting disc goes in front of it. The other two are just the same, but have only the medium cutter.

Apart from being slightly worried about it not having a boc, I would like one. We'll be visiting my mum, who lives in Wareham, a bit before Christmas, so maybe we could pick it up? What is a boc?

Boo! In the interim, the computer is behaving itself not too badly Both mincers now spoken for, but see at least 4 or so a month if anyone wants me to look out for one for them. Just let me know.
