I like to try one new thing every year, and this year I tried asparagus peas. After choosing them as my try out I was quite excited to see them growing in the kitchen garden at Ham House (nothing post 18th century) but so far I've been a little disappointed. They are very attractive garden plants - and quite delicious, but as a food crop in a small garden they don't pay for the growing space. Does anyone here grow them?

I tried them once and then ditched them - they were pretty and nice but didn't manage to oust the favourites...

I grew some last year, had plenty of pods but didn't like the taste. Yuk! They are pretty to look at though.

They are very pretty, but the pods go woody very quickly IME.

Difficult to cook and raw taste bland...we tried and felt we could use the space for something more tasty.

Just harvested mine, nothing special

But they were the only crop on the allotment not to be bothered by pests!!

I'm going to try pea asparagus.

Reason behind that is there are these,

And these.

Ergo, pea asparagus.
