I am having a few problems at the moment, and now I have one with word

When the computer crashed a few days ago I was working in word at the time, among other things. Windows rescued the document on re start, but now when ever I load up a new word document it always brings up this one. How can I get it to start a new clean sheet.

Come out of Word and delete the document might work (not sure but it's worth a try)

Also resaving the document might get it out of recovery mode.

Is there anything there next to the document name? If not, then the link may have got confused and be opening the document itself (as if you had double clicked on it), not the default template.

Easiest way to test this is to hunt down winword.exe (somewhere in ProgramFiles usually) and click on it, if it still opens the document then it'll be something under options in Word you'll have to change.

Does it sound like Word has decided you always work on that document and therefore it's the default document when you open it? It may have saved it somewhere else. Have just had a look in mine - tools, options, click the tab "file locations" - the bottom of the list is "Startup", and mine is a file called STARTUP in my documents and settings etc file. Perhaps you could check that it's not got your document there instead? I know in Excel there's something called personal.xls that basically saves all your options.

Just an idea. The only thing I know about computers is stuff I've got wrong in the past myself, which is a fair bit

OK this shouldn't work, but we need to make sure I know what I'm talking about.

Rename the document via file manager, then reopen word. You should find that the old named document comes back as\it's stuck in the cache. Now I just need to remember where the cache data file is kept.
