There is a huge elder (which is protected) in the farmers hedge adjoining my garden. It is too big to harvest flowers or fruit, but the main problem is blackfly. The green stems are now black and wilting from the infestation. Everything under it is dying from it's sticky honeydue coating, and everything underneath is affected by black aphids - as soon as I clear them, they're back, any advice, please?

Whatever you do, don't hammer a large copper wedge in to the trunk, as this may kill the tree
