What are your top tips for reducing, reusing and recycling your rubbish/waste, at home, at work and in life generally? Being an inovative bunch of folk you must have some groovy tips to pass on, and I for one would love to hear them, so share please

Its worth speaking to your local primary school/playgroup as they often want clean packaging (cereal boxes, washed out yogurt pots etc) for the kids to make things out of. If you don't have kids yourself no doubt you will know someone who does.

I've been amazed at the things I can use up the plot as bird/rabbit scarers - old CD's are well known but any plastic drink container can be hung on the end of a cane ( good safety thing anyways). The polystyrene circle from frozen pizzas, hung from a cane also rattles about in a useful sort of way! Ive even gently blown up the foil type bags that bread comes in and tied that to a cane as well.

Old CD's split on one side made great collars to keep my cabbages free of root fly. Bathwater for watering the garden (boy did I get some biceps last year!!) 5 litre plastic water bottles with the bottoms cut off made great mini-cloches. Left intact, they housed rather large quantities of sloe gin too, with no apparent detriment to the taste of it.

schools often take "junk" but they aren't allowed to take toilet rolls, due to a hygene issue.

does this count as recycling ? or a tip for those of us that are skint ? look on the adtrader (freeads ) website and do a search for 'free to collector' www.adtrader.co.uk just had a look but theres nothing local, its all 200 + miles away ! example, cream leather suite in good cond, small animal trailer, loads of wardrobes/chests of drawers etc.

Yes, definitely as it comes under "reuse" which is higher up the 3r's waste higherachy than recycling so better really.

Ebay, Trade-it and Loot are great places to get stuff too. None of the furniture in my house is new...all 2nd hand, as is the car (38 yrs old) and the cooker (40+ yrs old). I get nearly all my clothes from charity shops (except for undies

), my pots, pans, crockery, curtains, towels, etc.

well thats 3 of us ! i love charity shops ! cant remember the last time i bought myself new clothes,(i'm not a follower of fashion) the husband says i've perfected the 'tramp look' but i prefer 'shabby-chic '

Do these work? We had our first outbreak of cabbage root fly this year.

However, I can get hold of a good few CDs so I'll give it a try this year.

One for the top tip section or the grow your own.

Best to get a few not-so-good CD's really. Some of the Sunday tabloids give 'em away, cheaper than buying them!!!!
