Does anyone know how I can find ownership details for plots of land?
OH and I have had our eye on a plot on the edge of our village for a while as a potential self-build site (probably a pipe dream, but there you go). As I don't think it currently has an address I've not been able to find it on the Land Registry website.
You can apply for a "search of the index map" at the leand registry. This will give you the details of all registered plots in and around an area without needing a specific address. (ie its used for all those plots that are listed just as "land north of abbatoir lane" and so on).
Bear in mind that this will still not necessarily tell you anything if the land has not changed hands since the land registry started recording all transactions. In which case you're back to interrogating the oldest local resident.

You may also be able to get some details from the local planning office if you're lucky. I know ours has old records that they occasionally look at if you ask nicely.
