Just to move this issue from the logo thread.

Seems that a lot of the free templates at mambo hut are pretty ropey, they will display okay in internet explorer, but go to pieces in Firefox

There is actually quite a business around developing paid for templates in Mambo, and I wonder if the people who really can do it well, so for the paid approach!

Makes me wonder whether to take on board suggestons for site look from people and simply write our own? Seening as we want to make the forums and the site look more integrated, it seems inevitable that I will need to largely write one template or another anyway.

asked you about that one in the logo thread. Guess it got lost in the loads of posts.

what i asked was what did you see in it? I could not see much appeal.

Oh sorry, misread. it looked quite plain and seemed to work along the same lines as the one we're currently using, I just thought it'd be pretty easy just to change the colours and get it going.

Probably easier to hack the current one and make it dynamic.

I think it will try that, I do wonder whether if I was also to put the menu headers in the same style as on the forum, whether this would do us.

Maybe we need some more opinions!

I would quite like to see more borders, like on:

I think we're going to need other opinions, I prefer the look of our current front page (once it's been tidied up).

Anybody?

What we're asking is whether you prefer the look of the marsjupiter site or the downsizer one in terms of the boxes around things, outlines etc.

You're all welcome to comment

I prefer the one here, without the boxes. Seems to suit the site better.

Like the Downsizer.net logo (first timer it's come up fo me)

Like the news flash

Prefer the Mars jupiter page. i think the front page here is starting to look cluttered. Perhaps less articles and larger font or even just title and description?

I prefer it without boxes. I think also that we should control the use of multiple colours, and keep animations to a minimum. But that's just me.
NOT slagging it off, but using an example with which we're all familiar, RC often looks a complete dog's breakfast. Is there a way to simplify the forum topics bit? I like it being there, but I think it's a bit busy as it stands.

We can customise forum topics to remove bits, I had vaguely wondered about doing this. I will do so. What do you want to lose from it?

I would lose everything except the subject, then leave one or two blank lines before the next topic.
