Let the chickens out this morning and noticed my silver sebright cockerel is under the weather. He's sneezing constantly and has a white mucus coming from his eyes.

Any idea what it might be?

Might just be a cold. Might be something a bit more serious. I'd isolate him, put cider vinegar or collodial silver in the water and give him soft food so he keeps eating and drinking.

Is he rattling?

He doesn't appear to be. It's just constant sneezing.

He shares a coop with his missus, should I get her to sleep in one of the other coops, or just leave her with him? She did seem to be a bit concerned about him. She normally legs it out of the coop in the mornings, but she just stayed by him today.

Do you think I should ring the vet, or just see how he goes with the cider vinegar? (Haven't got colloidal silver. Where would I get that?)

I've just checked on him again and he seems fine now. The sneezing's stopped and his eyes and nose are clear.

He's pacing up and down in the run looking a bit miffed at being kept in and Belle was hanging around outside keeping him company.

Perhaps he just got dust in his eyes . I'd keep him shut in for the rest of the day and see what happens; and then stand down and let her back in tonight if he's still fine.

I bought collodial silver from interhatch online - it's a natural antibiotic.

Yeah, could have been that. We did put some clean woodshavings in the coop yesterday.

Shall order some colloidal silver.

Thanks Chez.

we had a similar problem after renewing the shavings in our house a couple of weeks back - it passed in a day or two but looked alarming at the time.

Is he a smoker? The early morning symptoms descibed sound absolutely typical. I'm pleased that things seem A OK

Haha! Not unless he's having a sneaky one around the back when I'm not looking!
