Conrad Black: Storyville
BBC4 Sun 31 Oct, 22:55-23:55
Conrad Black's arrival on the global publishing scene began with his takeover of the Daily Telegraph in 1985.
His business exploits have included owning about 60% of Canadian daily newspapers, founding the National Post, acquiring the Chicago Sun-Times, Jerusalem Post, Sydney Morning Herald, Melbourne's The Age, and the Spectator among other publications. His flamboyant, complicated and fascinating personal life has been no less contentious.
But now his publishing empire, once reputably, the third largest in the world, is crumbling before his eyes. But even though he's struggling, strapped for cash, facing angry shareholders and weathering lawsuits and racketeering charges, Black still remains as feisty and confrontational as ever, defending his ruthless business practices and staunch conservative political views.
Conrad Black: The Last Press Baron sets out to examine his globetrotting newspaper deals and the controversy and resistance he has encountered along the way.
